Durg-Dhakoba-Trek

Jamnagar 2012
This is my blog of Christmas 2012 birding trip to Jamnagar.
We traveled Jamnagar from Pune by car and spent 3 days in Jamnagar. There we visited Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary, Narara Marine National Park and Lakhota Lake in heart of Jamnagar city.
Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary is a bird sanctuary also known as safe haven for birds located in Jamnagar district of Gujarat, India. It has about 300 varieties of migratory birds.
You need to get permission at gate of sanctury, charges Rs 200 per vehicle + Rs 100 per camera, this permit is valid through out the day.
We entered in the park early in morning in our car and returned back @ 4 pm for Rosy Starling flock show at Lakhota Lake.
Narara Marine National Park in the Gulf of Kutch is situated on the southern shore of the Gulf of Kachchh. In 1980, an area of 270 km2. from Okha to Jodiya was declared Marine Sanctuary. Later, in 1982, a core area of 110 km2 was declared Marine National Park under the provisions of the Wildlife (protection) Act, 1972 of India. It is the first national marine park of India. There are 42 islands on the Jamnagar coast in the Marine National Park, most of them surrounded by reefs.
This is almost 60km from Jamnagar city so you need to start early to reach Narara in morning. Sighting of marine life is mostly dependent on high tide / low tide. If you reach there at high tide then water level increases and you won't be able to see marine life much so you need to wait for low tide to happen. Permission charges are same as for Khijadia we paid Rs 200 + Rs 100 as camera charge.
Make sure you enter with guide otherwise you won't be able to see marine life, guide is provided by forest dept (no extra charges) for a group of 15-20 people.
